The film opens with various picturesque views of the village of Sandsend, the railway signal box at the station, and Sandsend Hotel. At Whitby, a carnival features competitors assembling near the harbour. The procession climbs the steep Kyber pass to the carnival site on the west side of the bandstand area. As they climb the hill, an old beggar is briefly seen at the bottom of a flight of steps. This was his summer pitch. In winter he could be found outside Leeds town hall. We see the children's fancy dress parade, various floats, the crowning of the carnival queen by Lady Robinson, an old fire engine. The scene shifts to workmen building foundations for new Sleights Bridge after being washed away by floods in 1930, railway signal box and ferry station. Redcar sands with roundabout and swing boats and Whitby moor. One of the floats celebrates Amy Johnson's recently completed solo flight to Australia.
