Title: Ferryboat
The SS ‘Northumbrian’ crosses the River Tyne preparing to dock at South Shields. In the wheelhouse Captain George Humble at the controls steering the vessel carefully towards the landing platform.
The 'Northumbrian' comes alongside the docking area and landing lines are tied up on bollards. The gangplank is lowers and foot passengers disembark changing to a lorry being driven onto the ferry and a young woman and her child rushing up the gangplank onto the vessel.
A member of the crew turns a wheel, and the gangplank is raised. Landing lines are released, and in the wheelhouse, Captain Humble slowly reverses the Northumbrian, water churning up at the rear. In the engine room the Northumbrian pistons pumping up and down as the Northumbrian heads out into the River Tyne making for North Shields.
The Northumbrian pulls up along the landing platform at North Shields and Captain Humble turns the engine order telegraph to stop. A brass plaque reads 'Northumbrian Hawthorne Leslie & Co. Ltd Shipbuilders & Engineers Newcastle'.
Smoke billows from the funnel as the landing lines are once again released in readiness to depart. At the ships wheel Captain Humble steers, the 'Northumbrian' back into open water and away from the landing area and back towards South Shields, the water at the rear churning once again.
End title: The end
