Summary
An amateur film produced by Frederic Carl Birkbeck begins on the river Tees near Cauldron Snout with two men fishing. This is followed by a journey along the river from Cauldon Snout east passing High Force and ending near the village of Piecebridge. The film moves to the Lake District with views around Ullswater followed by a hike by four young men to the summit of Helvellyn. They reach the summit via Striding Edge with some great views across the surrounding landscape. Back in the region the filmmaker records both men and women taking part in South Durham Hunt point-to-point races near the village of Sadberge on Saturday 26th March 1932. In the final part of the films features a trip to Blackpool by train with views of the Pleasure Beach and the illuminations with the final section being shot on tinted stock.

Title: A Few Places of Interest from Around About Title: Glimpses of Teesdale Title: A Visit to Cauldon Snout Title: With Three Anglers Kneeling on the banks of the River Tees a man in a flat cap baits his fishing line. A second man walks over and jokingly pulls his friends flat cap over his eyes as he continues to prepare his line for fishing. Both men laugh. With the falls of Cauldon Snout in the background one of the men poses with a fish he has caught; he holds it out for the camera with pride. Title: And One Fish As he continues to hold the fish his friend comes over, snatches it, and runs away with it with both men smiling. The two of them cast their lines into the River Tees changes to one of the putting his rod and net down on the riverbank and walking away. Title: The Fall The waters of the River Tees cascading over the falls of Cauldon Snout. Title: The Ravine from Below From the base of Caldron Snout, the Tees flowing over it. Title: Moving Upwards From the top of the falls the waters of the Tees flowing over Caldron Snout and a couple walking along a path beside the Tees towards a bridge in the near distance. Title: High Force Two men stand around the rocky base of High Force Waterfall watching the waters of the River Tees flow over it. A few shots from this sequence have been spliced upside down so it would appear as if the water is running up the waterfall. From the top of the falls a man looking upstream as the water continues to flow over High Force itself changes to the River Tees flowing downstream. Title: Wemmergill Hall From the grounds outside the exterior of Wemmergill Hall, part of the estate of the Strathmore family. Title: Raby Castle From its deer park Low Pond and Raby Castle itself. A man in a bowler hat walks across a field and picks up a walking stick changes to the River Tees continuing to flow downstream. A car drives past along a country road changes to another phantom car ride along the shore of Ullswater with peaks on the far banks. Title: We Climb Helvellyn Title: By Striding Edge Four young men in shorts head out on a hike changes to a view looking along Striding Edge. Title: Views of Striding Edge A man stands looks out along Striding Edge, below him the waters of Red Tarn. One of the group stands looking out across the landscape while two others begin the scramble down towards the route across Striding Edge. From the far side of Striding Edge views back along the rocky ridge with Red Tarn in the distance. The camera follows a ridge of a hill to three of the group standing together in the distance. At the summit of Helvellyn the Gough Memorial. Title: And Return by Dollywaggon Pike The four men come down a grassy bank, two of the sliding down the steep slope. Title: Some of the Jumps Riders on horseback speed across a field jumping over another fence before charging off across the next field. A pack speed down a hillside past watching crowds and leap over another fence. Title: Opening Out Two packs of rides speed past across a field watched by spectators. Title: Nearing the Finish Three riders jump over a fence racing towards a large crowd gathered in the near distance at the finish line. Title: The Finishing Post A large crowd of flat cap wearing men gather around the finishing post as horse and riders cross the line. A steam passenger train pulls into a railway station changes to two men standing near the exit. In the background other passengers leaving the station. Title: Pleasure Beach The log flume at Blackpool Pleasure Beach speeding down its ramp splashing into the water below. On a different ride people speeding past on a slide, some travelling on pairs while other on their own. Title: The Illuminations From a moving vehicle travelling along Blackpool seafront a series of illuminations lit up at night, some appear to be Cinderella themed with one showing a woman trying on a slipper and another a pumpkin shaped carriage.
