Opening with views around Newcastle and a number of regional rivers before the film sets the scene with a series of domestic scenes in which water is important. The film then moves to a reservoir and shows the modern technologies available to help clean, purify and deliver water to the domestic householder.  The film opens with a view of the Tyne Bridge seen from The Side at Newcastle. There are various general views of the city showing the Swing Bridge, The Castle and The Cathedral Church of St Nicholas. There is a view of the Newcastle Quayside seen from the Tyne Bridge. The film cuts to show shots of rivers flowing through a rural locations. A woman pours a glass of water from a tap and takes a drink. The tap on a standpipe at a farm is turned on. Geese drink water from a trough. The film cuts to show cattle and then elephants drinking from troughs. Two small boys play together in a bath. A young boy brushes his teeth. In a kitchen a woman fills a kettle with water from a tap. In a garden a man waters his flowers. A man in a green jacket uses a hose to wash down a concrete floor. The film cuts to show views of a reservoir [possibly Burnhope Reservoir at Wearhead] and associated buildings. Water flows along a number of concrete sluices and through a sluice gate. A man fishes beside a lock gate. There is an exterior view of a large art-deco brick built water treatment centre beside a river. Inside the centre there are a number of large metal tanks and boards of gauges. Back outside, there is a view of a large water storage tank. The film cuts to show either the same or a different tank under construction. Concrete steps lead down into the bottom. There are a number of wheelbarrows laid out near the middle. Beside two hoses laid out on the ground are a series of small mounds of earth. Three workmen are seen raking sand across the bottom of the tank. A woman and her child are shown around the edge of the tank by a man. The film cuts to show a series of water purification and filtration tanks build on different levels. Two men in diving suits speak with a third man. A fourth man talks over a set of plans with the divers. One of the divers helps prepare the other to get into the tank. Helping his colleague into the water he holds onto a safety rope. The diver comes back to the surface. The film cuts to show a large warehouse building with a small van parked outside. Inside the space is filled with water tanks attached to a series of motor pumps. Three men can be seen looking over the large pumps; one of them is seen turning a valve. A fourth older man looks at a panel of gauges. Back outside there is another view of a building and a large storage tank beside it. Inside the building metal barrier surround three large holes in the floor. Beside each hole is a piped valve. A man looks over a set of gauges built onto the wall nearby. The film then shows the operation of water being released by the man turning a series of valves and watching a number of gauges which turn from red to green.  A man climbs out of a Morris Minor van and makes his way towards a building. Inside three men in white lab coats look through microscopes. One of the men uses a dropper to add a liquid to a number of flasks of water. Inside a large building a man looks at a large motor pump. This is followed by two men checking over an electrical system for faults. Outside water is pumped into a storage tank. A panoramic view follows of a green field with a large chimney and the roofs of a number of houses in the distance. The film cuts to show an empty underground reservoir with concrete pillars holding the roof up. The film cuts to a building site or an estate of new houses. An engineer lays the pipes connecting a house to the mains water supply. He turns on the water supply and the film begins to repeat the opening montage of a woman pouring a glass of water from a tap and taking a drink. On a farm, a farm worker turns on a standpipe and water pours out. Geese drink from a trough. The film cuts to show cattle and then elephants drinking from troughs. In a bathroom two small boys play together in a bath. A young boy brushes his teeth. In a kitchen a woman fills a kettle with water from a tap. In a garden a man waters his flowers. Then a man in a green jacket hoses down a concrete floor. In a street a drain cleaning vehicle approaches a drain. A man unhooks the hose from the vehicle and water jets down into the drain. The film ends with water being pumped into a storage tank.
