Over the opening credits the exterior of St Lawrence’s Abbey Church at Ampleforth Abbey in North Yorkshire. Basil Hume Inside the congregation as well as monks from the Benedictine order stand and watch as senior members of the church enter lead by the Abbot Basil Hume wearing vestment and mitre and carrying a crozier. At the side of sanctuary, a man gently swings a censor or thurible to spread incense. With the congregation taking their seats the mass begins with a reading incorporating Gregorian chant and Latin by Basil Hume. Two readings are given from the Acts of Apostles and the Gospel of Matthew after which Basil Hume gives a sermon on the importance of loving God and the relevance of All Saints Day. Another reading or prayer by Basil Hume accompanied in parts by the congregation after which he prepares for and give communion with the assistance of other clergy.
