Amateur travelogue that documents the Brown's grand tour of Europe in 1937 shortly before the Second World War, where they witness the beginnings of Nazism. The footage records travel in Germany, Austria, Hungary and Czechoslovakia. There are visits to Munich, the Austrian Tyrol region, Vienna, Salzburg and Linz before moving on to Budapest and the Hungarian plains. The film features many images of traditional costume and culture, primarily in scenes filmed on the Hungarian Plains....

A street display case shows anti-Semitic propaganda from the pages of the tabloid newspaper Der Stürmer. The newspaper’s motto 'Die Juden sind unser Ungluck!' ('The Jews are our misfortune!') is seen at the bottom of the display case. There is a close-up of the pages, which feature anti-Semitic caricatures.

There is an exterior view of Ettal Abbey, a Benedictine monastery. A close up of the Baroque style dome follows and the camera pans across the abbey. A monk speaks to a family of three outside the abbey.

A young woman gets onto a bicycle and cycles away down the street. There is a shot of traditional Bavarian buildings with window boxes along the street of Oberammergau. A man in traditional Bavarian national costume of short leather breeches (lederhosen), jacket, and felt hat with feather walks across the street.

There is a brief shot of the peaks of the mountains shrouded in mist in the resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. A signpost points to the sport and ski stadiums. A motoring accident has happened and vehicles are blocking a mountain pass. A tall man in long leather coat, smoking a cigarette, walks away from the scene. He has a bloody wound on the side of his head. A policeman arrives. Shot of a damaged motorbike and sidecar with wheels missing. There is another shot of the broken sidecar wheel, followed by one of the car involved in the accident. A group of people pull the car away from the centre of the road.

A group of young men and women wait in the road. They are dressed in old fashioned miners’ clothing provided for visitors of white baggy trousers, black berets and black leather apron worn back to front. A sign reads 'To the mountain entrance' and people queue to enter the salt mines. Next, a group of visitors to the mine get off a small monorail ride. A woman has her picture taken. Visitors walk back to their tour bus.

A tour guide in traditional Austrian costume of short trousers, long socks and flowery tie helps people from the bus. Kate Brown stands at a railing looking at the view, probably filmed in the Hohensalzburg Castle as the fortress walls can be seen in the background. People stand in a high watchtower with the red and white Austrian flag flying from a pole. There is a view down to two men looking at the view over Salzburg from the castle tower. One man is dressed in monk’s tunic. Next there is an aerial viewpoint from the castle over the city of Salzburg and its winding river. A laughing tour guide poses in traditional Austrian costume.

On the way to Linz we stop at Gmunden. There is a shot of the Schubert monument in the park at Franz-Josephs-Platz and views of Lake Traunsee with swans by the shore. Women wash clothes in the lake. Kate Brown talks to a distinguished old lady wearing a fox fur stole standing by the 'Elite' tour bus.

A shot of a sculpture on a white column in Linz follows. There are close-ups of two bronze circular discs at its base. One disc is inscribed with the dates 1914 / 1918 and the second features a two-figure relief. The monument commemorates the First World War. The next sequences show various women market and street traders, mostly wearing headscarves. One seller weighs goods on hand held scales. A woman buys flowers from a stall. There is a shot of a display of patterned silk headscarves, with a glimpse of Kate Brown on the right.

The next shot is of Kate Brown sitting at a table on a veranda with a group of people. She then steps off a train decorated with a banner in Hungarian flag colours. There is a shot of three 'csikos', or Hungarian horse herders, in traditional black waistcoat and white dress. Two women are helped into a horse-driven wooden cart. A man in traditional dress riding a horse down a village road lifts his hat as he passes. The next sequences show herds of horses and cattle on the plains. Men use a primitive wooden water pump on a plain in the middle of a grazing cattle herd. Two men in traditional costume demonstrate techniques with whips. A male tourist attempts to emulate the Hungarian tradition with a whip. Kate Brown wields a whip unsuccessfully, an Hungarian instructor in the background.

Chicken is cooked on a large-scale outdoor barbecue whilst a group of tourists watch.

Men and women demonstrate the czardas (or czardas) national dance of Hungary, with both slow and fast sections of the dance. The women wear red polka dot dresses. A military guard and man in Hungarian costume share a joke. A shot of the guard follows, as he smokes a cigarette beneath a tree. A steam train stands at a station.
