The film opens with a view of a hillside farmhouse and outbuildings overlooking a valley. The film cuts to two people walking up a hillside road followed by a solitary sheep grazing next to a derelict building.
The film cuts to a field and a stone-built barn, a herd of sheep approach the barn.
Another change of view as a red bus negotiates a bend on a country road and continues on into the distance. A sheep emerges from a gap made in a stone wall. Cows graze in a field near a stone barn, others graze on a sloping verge at the side of a village road.
At an agricultural show a stage is set out with chairs and music stands in a field where a number of cars are parked.
Visitors walk past a Ford Cortina Mk III parked next to a marquee. Two caravans stand next to each other, one displays a board which reads ‘Secretary,’ a number of people queue in order to make queries. In another part of the field a local motor trader has vehicles for sale.
On the stage seen earlier, a brass band entertains visitors. A high angle view shows the field with a number of cars parked on it and visitors milling around the centre. Another view point follows where the camera pans round to show the full extent of the show field.
Cattle are paraded round by their owners. An artist makes sketch of some sheep in a pen. Hiding behind a hedge near a wall and out of sight of people on the show field a young teenager smokes a cigarette.
A man stands with his sheepdog, a number of others join him with their dogs. The men walk round in a circle with the dogs by their side. Dogs and owners then congregate in a group, then start their circular parade again as a man and woman look on. The film cuts to the man and woman checking over one of the dogs.
In another part of the show stands a series of empty pens. The film cuts to one of the pens holding four sheep. In another pen a man scrubs the face and head of one of his sheep. A group of another breed of sheep are ushered into another pen. Then a number of the sheep are moved out leaving two.
The film cuts to a brass band marching through a farm gate, they carry on along a muddy track onto the show field. More cars start arriving through the gate.
General views follow of the sheep pens and their owners standing nearby. Some sheep are examined, and owners are awarded rosettes.
A general view follows of sheep grazing in fields on a fine day. Some sheep dogs appear near to those grazing.
The film cuts to a general view of a rocky stream with hills in the distance. The film runs at speed at this point as the clouds move rapidly across the sky. Another view shows hills across a valley in shadow while stone walls and buildings near to the camera are bathed in sunshine.
A view through a stone archway reveals a rocky stream. The film moves on to a deserted moorland road. A sheep stands next to metal railings above it a battered sign reads; ‘Beware of the Bull’. Next a view of a small stone arch, a culvert which diverts water to nearby stream, sheep graze nearby. A dead sheep lies next to a grassy tussock.
A view along a stone wall next to road shows a village and hills in the distance. A general view shows stone-built field boundaries and stone barns, typical features of the dales.
Next general views of stone-built houses in the village of Muker, with a stream running near the main road. A cow grazes in the shadow of a stone barn. The film shows the location of the barn which is surrounded by trees and stands next to a stone wall. Another view of the village shows cars going over a stone bridge.
The film cuts to sheep being herded along a road, a sheep dog keeps the herd in check. A car pulls into the side of the road to let the sheep pass.
The film cuts to a view across a valley dotted with stone-built houses and barns. The film moves to a rough track leading to a farmhouse. Next a view of a moorland track winding its way across the hillside. Cattle gather near a gate built into a stone wall. Another track reaches the top of a hill, the tops of hills in the distance are shrouded in mist. A car approaches the camera.
The film moves on to coach parked at the side of the road in Reeth, a young schoolboy gets on the coach. A view of a nearby road junction shows sign posts giving directions to other towns and villages. The coach slowly moves off.
In a wooden shelter a number of people chat amongst themselves. The film cuts to a stone building with a notice board attached which reads; ‘The Alpine Tea Rooms, Coffee, Teas, Snacks’ a man walks up the hill away from the café. A general view shows houses facing the village green.
On a country road a blue van slows down to follow cattle being herded along the road. The film ends showing a stone wall with a windswept field beyond, this is followed by a sunlit stretch of road receding into the distance where there are dark overcast skies.
