He appears to have given up control of the firm Charles Pickard and Son around the start of WW2 when his son Alan took over. The firm’s negatives were destroyed in 1964 at the time of a move to new premises. In 1986 they changed name to Larkfield Photography Ltd. and in 1994 became Leach Studio Ltd. This company was dissolved in 2000. Latterly they specialised in Industrial Photography, many prints being handed over to Leeds Industrial Museum (Armley). A Technological History of Motion Pictures and Television: An Anthology from the Pages of the Journal of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers pg 81-2 “Some time after his disappearance, Mr. Ricard Wilson collected such things as he thought worthy of preservation. As a banker he did not know their technical and historical value, and thus film, etc. were lost that would now be considered valuable. Charles Pickard, commercial photographer of Leeds, has the tripod of the camera and Frederic Mason picked up a few photographs… (Frances R. Outhwaite) After waiting about a month, Mr. Longley and myself entered the workshop and found everything quite normal, the machines intact, and tools, drawings, photographs as well as a quantity of discarded material, lying about. Mr. Richard Wilson, a friend of the family and manager of Lloyds Bank, Leeds, took charge of all the effects and proceeded to dispose of such parts as could readily be sold. A large tripod I made for the camera passed into the possession of Mr. Charles Pickard, photographer of Leeds, who showed it at the unveiling ceremony.” YFA Filmography: Charles Pickard Film ID: YFA 3448 SPA TREATMENT HARROGATE PUMP ROOM Date: 1939 Pickard and Son Film ID: YFA 858 OPENING OF CIVIC HALL BY GEORGE V Date: 1933 Alan Pickard Film ID: YFA 1955 WADDINGTON'S CARD MAKING Date: 1939 Film ID: YFA 1956 GRAND PRIX DI POZZO Date: 1929 Film ID: YFA 3493 THOSE WHO ARE OLD Date: 1944 Film ID: YFA 4767 CAME THE DAWN Date: 1936 Film ID: YFA 5455 A LIGHT THROUGH THE CLOUDS Date: 1954 (Devised and written by Alan Pickard) (possibly more from Bootham School collection) Related films – A.R.
