This is a film of the Duke of Edinburgh’s visit to Slingsby Aircraft on Kirkbymoorside on 6th February, 1969.
The Duke of Edinburgh arrives, accompanied by a man with a chin curtain beard, and meets members of the Slingsby Aircraft Company. He signs the visitor’s book and looks around a mounted display of their aircraft and their designs. He goes on a tour of the workshop, stopping to talk to many of those working there. He inspects some of the planes in preparation, accompanied by a large entourage and many photographers. He views some of the new designs. They go for a walk outside, and the Duke of Edinburgh lays down a stone plaque to commemorate his visit, before examining some of the planes. He then gets into a white Triumph car and is driven off. Everyone else then make their way back to the main office. Outside there is a group of RAF personnel, along with many of the planes on display: the Slingsby Dart, the Slingsby Skylark 3 and the Nipper Series 3. The film finishes with the company flag flying.
