This is a film of the St Thomas’ Scout Group from the Groves area of York on their annual summer camp at Great Tower Scout Camp Site, on the shore of Lake Windermere.
Scouts load their minibus with their gear, on the roof rack and in a trailer, before setting off. Part of the journey is filmed from the front of the minibus. They arrive at Great Tower, in a wooded area, on the edge of Lake Windermere. It is run by the Scouting Association, and here they pitch their tents, set up camp and eat lunch in a dining shelter.
Then, out walking in the Lake District they have a rest. One of the leaders does some repairs to the minibus and they set off again, with the Scouts singing in the back. They arrive at Ravenglass Railway Station, where people are waiting on the platform for the narrow gauge train. They take the River Esk train, filming the journey from on board, arriving at Delegarth.
Back at the camp they light an open fire, and then they set off again on another trip, passing a sign for Bowness. Here they visit the Parish church for morning service and walk around the town before going swimming in Lake Windermere. Back at the camp they light a fire, collect water from the local stream and prepare a meal. They pack up their tents.
