Title – G.H.C. Presents a Day at 79
Peter the baby is seen awake in a cot; he looks agitated whilst looking around a seemingly empty room. A woman enters; kisses the baby, picks it up and takes it down stairs. Meanwhile in another room a man is having a traditional shave using a shaving brush and cream. A dog (possible Labra-doodle) comes to the window opposite the man and begins barking and pressing on the window. The man seeing this responds by tapping on the window.
The woman downstairs (probable mother of child) is washing the baby in a small bath, whilst an older lady (possible Grandmother) knits from a chair covered in blankets in the background, as a cat seated in a bed enjoys the warmth next to the fire place. The baby is then taken out of the bath by his mother, dried with a towel then diapered whilst the man seen previously shaving, probable Father is smoking a pipe in a chair and reading the paper.
Mother takes baby outside and places him in a stroller in the front yard whilst a man is tending to the garden, mowing the lawn. Three women enter the garden and are immediately drawn to the baby in the stroller, huddling over the pram and cooing at the baby boy. Growing tired of the baby the three young women grab a lawn roller and push it around the garden, running it into the man tending the lawn, pushing him around and generally being a nuisance.
The perspective changes to the front of the house where the Father is seen leaving the front door in a long overcoat, two pet dogs stood on a raised roof next to the door begin barking and wagging their tails. The man pulls his car out of the garage and begins to polish the windscreen and rear view mirrors with a scruffy cloth. Meanwhile upstairs in the house the Mother is now seen getting ready and putting on her day clothes, downstairs the Father is seen taking a stroller out the front door and down the stairs and then returns to polishing the windscreen of his car as the mother who followed shortly out the door after with a baby in her arms, places said baby in the stroller. The dogs seen on the raised roof above the drive are seen barking down to the baby as he looks up and smiles contently before the Father places the stroller and baby in the back of the car, the young family then drive off.
The second section of the film takes place in the countryside, most likely West Yorkshire. Mother and baby are seen now in more rural settings, on a village green with the baby in stroller feeding geese whilst the Father stays in his car reading a magazine. Mother and baby sit down on a bank entertain themselves with a long blade of grass and playing games. They are then seen walking around the fields and through a farm, various views of Mother and Child looking at; sheep, lambs goats, and horses.
Various static shots of trees around the farm followed by views inside the farm; cows and chickens grazing in the yard and barn interiors (quite dark). The woman is seen throwing grains for chickens in the yard, whilst the Father of the family is seen leaving his car and heading towards the farm.
Mother and child are seen at a gate now, over the road from the barns and yard looking at a field full of cows, a farmer enters the field and opens another gate. Cows stream out through the open gate, past mother and child onto the road.
Mother and child are now seen in a different empty field, laughing and playing after a while the mother takes the baby back to the car and sits in the front seat.
End.
