Title – Scenic magazine of the English lakes
Title – Devil’s Bridge – Kirkby Lonsdale
Two people stand on the banks of the River Lune, observing the Devils Bridge which crosses the waterway.
Title – Kendal
A pedestrian crosses a bridge and cars and motorbikes drive up a main street in the town. The market square is seen, followed by a churchyard.
Title – Bowness and Windermere
People alight from a bus onto a busy pavement. A group of men on racing bicycles comes along the road towards the camera. More bicycles can be seen in a park, followed by crowds of people strolling around Bowness pier. A woman takes in the view over the water and a man strolls out along a jetty stretching into the lake.
A teenage boy and an older woman, probably the filmmaker’s wife and son, stand by the lakeside. Their dog plays on top of a wall and splashes around in the lake. A sightseeing boat takes tourists out on the water and smaller kayaks are moored near a jetty. The Swan Hotel is seen from outside as a man leaves through the front door. Swans swim on the lake.
Title – Waterhead and Ambleside
Two girls in white shirts and tartan skirts sit near a lake, while a rowing boat full of people heads out onto the water. Nearby, people relax on benches and a man teaches a small child to walk. In the garden of a hotel, people sit under parasols. A teenage boy pets a horse from over a gate.
Title – Near Langdale
A man stands by a motorcar parked near a large country house. A small white bridge crosses a stream in an ornamental garden.
Title – Keswick and Derwentwater
A busy street is seen with car traffic and pedestrians, followed by a church at the end of the road. After views over a lake, presumably Derwentwater, people can be seen wandering over a hillside with houses in the background. Two men in a small boat row slowly out onto the lake. Two women and a young man pet a dog on the jetty before climbing into a rowing boat.
The lake is seen from the top of a sightseeing boat, with other tourists seated in front. A large building, possibly a hotel, sits on one shore, with atmospheric mist over the hills behind.
Title – Ashness Bridge
A low stone bridge crosses a rocky stream which trickles downhill. A young man picks rocks out of the water. From further up hill, a view of both the bridge and the lake can be seen.
Title – View from Shepherd’s Leap
A man sits on a bench and looks down from a great height into the valley below. The filmmaker’s wife and son walk with their dog along a path towards the camera. She has a basket of fruit and holds it out for the dog to inspect.
Title – Aira Forge, Ullswater
A small waterfall tumbles down a rock face. In the valley, walkers cross a low bridge over a much more peaceful river. A small village is seen with a small stone building which is built across the river. The film ends with the trees lining the lake shores and hilltops in the distance.
