Title – Selby Cine Club Presents: Benedict’s Return
The film begins showing some of the stain glass windows of Selby Abbey. There is a large queue outside the Abbey to attend a special service of unity to commemorate the founding of the Abbey. Attending the services are: monks from Ampleforth College, the Mayor of Selby, Canon Tony Smith, vicar of Selby Abbey, Reverend Maddocks, Bishop of Selby, Stuart Blanch, the Archbishop of York, Cardinal Hume, the Archbishop of Westminster, and representatives from many other Christian denominations. The monks from Ampleforth College sing the matins for the feast of St Peter and St Paul. Cardinal Hume makes an appeal for unity as we are shown a glimpse of the service before the congregation leave the Abbey. Outside Cardinal Hume poses with others for photographs, and the film ends where it began, looking at the stained glass windows.
