Lake Geneva is picturesque in the sunshine, with houses on the hillside behind. A sightseeing boat goes past and people stroll along the lakeside path. A jet skier whizzes past, and men stand on rocks in the lake and cast their fishing lines.
The Châteaux de Chillon, or Chillon Castle, is seen in the background as a woman sits on a rock further up the shore. The commentary explains that Francois Bonivard was imprisoned in the castle for six years during the 16th century. Inside is a small courtyard with roses growing up the walls. Visitors explore the building, and the commentary notes that Byron’s poem The Prisoner of Chillon was inspired by a visit to the castle.
Roses and lush green trees are seen from inside the building, through an open window. From outside, an imposing black window in the castle walls is seen. According to the commentary, prisoners were allegedly thrust out of this window to drown in the lake. Two people row a boat on the tranquil water, and the castle is seen again, with bright blue skies and mountains in the background.
