The next part of the film shows the lead up to Hull FC's Homecoming at City Hall on 2nd May, 1982. In a suburban back garden one boy lying on his front on the grass is leapt over by another child wearing large Hull FC black and white striped jumper.
Out in the street there is a group shot of a family of supporters. A woman in a blue jacket is seen with a Hull FC rosette and scarf. There is a close up of her and a sense of anticipation as the family wait in the street.
An open top bus approaches, and on the top deck there are various officials and a gorilla mascot. Crowds are waiting lining the streets outside Hull City Hall. There is lots of flag waving, and a delegation appears on the balcony decorated with coloured bunting and flags. The celebrations continue with lots of flag waving and singing.

Hull FC vs. Widnes in 1982 was a nail-biting Challenge Cup final. Starting with a lead from Widnes at 14-6, Hull miraculously turned the game around in the last 13 minutes. Finishing at a draw, a match replay was issued – the first one in 28 years. Oddly, the rematch was instead held at Elland Road in Leeds following a timetable clash with Pope John Paul II’s visit. Hull FC, who had not won since 1914, had been close to touching victory in five previous finals; three of which were at Wembley but 1982 was finally their golden year. |
