Title - The Kids (Animated title)
(Paul, Malrat 1971) The film opens on a sunny day. A group of young boys of mixed age are playing football in an enclosed sandy playground. A boy climbs a climbing frame whilst the others play with the ball.
(Paul Bicycle 1971) Next there is a view from the road, and the front doors of redbrick terraced housing are seen. Outside No.77 a boy stands with his bike as an older lady sends him on his way. A wider view shows other houses as the boy cycles down the street. From a different angle the boy comes towards the camera and his blonde hair and knitted jumper become clear. Slowing and steadying with his feet he takes his bike down a passage between two houses.
(Paul Pub 1971) A boy wearing shorts and sandals throws a ball for a dog at the back of a pub with white-washed brickwork. A man in a shirt and tie restrains the dog on a lead while the picture widens to show fine terraced houses and painted yellow door frames. There is a barrel outside the door. A woman in an armless white dress and a young woman in red chat and joke around. They are relaxed and joyful as the older lady kicks up her legs in a mock ‘can-can,’ and she pushes around a two-wheeler trolley like it were a toy. An older man in a blue shirt with sideburns pushes the boy atop a beer barrel loaded onto the trolley and disappears round the corner.
(Paul Football 1973) The next section opens with a shot of a football field. There is a main road which runs behind housing close by. A football match is taking place with boys in red jerseys versus team in yellow jersey. A blonde lady in a blue head scarf looks on as the boy in goal makes a save. At half-time there is a team talk. Everyone is involved including the mothers, some in headscarves and some wearing football scarves. There is a possible school building at the far end of the field.
(Lydiate 1973) There are children playing in a back garden. It is an egg and spoon type game involving hopping and depositing items. The children play in a go-kart and push a toy truck. The adults watch from afar, lounging in deck chairs in the afternoon sun. A seated woman wipes her white heelless shoe. The boys tow the little black dog (cross breed terrier) in a box crate cart.
(Paul Fishing Spurn 1973) Outside a suburban semi-detached house, a man and two boys wrap up warm with red and white bobble hats and fishing rods as they set off for a fishing expedition. On a pebble beach, the boys cast their lines late in the day the last rays of sun illuminating their eager faces. The father instructs the boys in how to hold and cast the rods correctly. From the pebble beach the boys hold up their catch in a transparent plastic badge similar to what you may find at the fair. There is a goldfish inside. There is a lot of fun and laughter. The older man reels in a large fish and there is lots of celebration as the suns sets over a golden sea the figures viewed as silhouettes. There is a shot of the interior of a suburban kitchen. A woman brings a meal to the table, presumably the catch of the day, which the children eat appreciatively.

Title - On this suspicious occasion…I proudly present my latest epic (Cartoon of a burglar wearing a hat opening a safe. He removes a spool of film.)
(Tommy Cooper 1973) A blue hatchback car is parked next to a garage. A tall man dressed as Tommy Cooper appears from the garage. He is wearing a mustard shirt and a bright red fez hat. The man bares his teeth, smiles, and gestures, “Just like that” in true Tommy Cooper style. As if by magic, he disappears from the right of the screen to appear in the left hand side of the car in the passenger seat. Suddenly he emerges from the car boot. Gesturing at the side of the car, he waves his hands, and the car turns from blue to brown. He also acquires a dark jacket. There is a close up shot of his chuckling face.
(Mam 1973) A blonde lady smiles for the camera. She is wearing a floral dress and walks behind an older lady in glasses and a blue dress with white cardigan. They walk towards the camera and talk to the cameraman. They walk through the garden and admire the roses.
(Grass Track 1973) A field with many old cars perhaps a drag race. The word ‘Ferndale’ can clearly be seen on the side of a car. A family prepare drinks from a flask standing next to an old car. There is a race with views of the muddy field and cars in action. A young boy makes notes as the cars go past. Young men working on car parts hammer components from the side lines.
(Hull Fair 1973) It is a large funfair with a helter-skelter and a carousel. Many colourful sideshows can be seen such as ‘Believe it or not Human freaks!’ and ‘The Outer Limits’ attractions. A Ferris wheel can be seen. There are numerous views of the fair from the Ferris wheel. Moving closer there is a shot of a boy’s face with fairground in the background and more aerial views. As the light fades, the fairground comes to life with bright lights and excitement: the blonde boy gets into a rocket ship ride, there is a Waltzer, bumper cars, and a fairground organ. Children try their luck on the ‘Pluck a duck’ and the shooting range. The sequence closes with a view of the carousel horses in motion.
Title - All in a day’s work
(Ambulance 1974) The next section features the ambulance service. A dark blue ambulance is parked with registration LAT2 32E, and there is a sign saying ‘Ambulance Drive Carefully’. The ambulance driver demonstrates some of the equipment on board including an air pump. The two men in full uniform and hats talk to each other at the dashboard.
A sign above the windscreen reads ‘I consider the day to be a total loss unless I receive Hell from someone.’ One of the crew picks up the radio and transcribes the message on a pad of paper. A switch is thrown, and the blue light siren flashes. On the move the ambulance negotiates the busy roads. Housing estates are clearly visible through the driver’s side, and the driver changes gear. Shop frontages and dark ‘double-decker’ buses can be seen as the ambulance approaches the High Street on the wet road. The windscreen wipers are on.
An injured man in yellow sweater lies next to a car, his head bandaged and hand bloody. The ambulance arrives, and a funny scene ensues as the first paramedic faints at the sight of blood. He is caught by the second ambulance man. The two bodies are laid next to each other, and the paramedic scratches his head. A trolley is wheeled into the scene. The patient with bandaged head suddenly rises to his feet and helps the paramedic to lift onto the trolley his colleague who has fainted. He is wheeled into the back of the ambulance, and he drives off leaving the patient who throws off his head bandage in frustration and stomps on it like in an old slapstick comedy film.
