This is a film made by Vaughan and Co. of Hull of a village fancy dress procession and fair in Preston, East Riding. The procession took place on 23rd August, 1947.
The film begins showing All Saints Church, and four women erecting a tent next to a half complete timber building. One woman is in oriental costume. A procession, led by a boy band, makes its way along the streets. It arrives in a field full of people and a few stalls set up for the event. The camera goes around the people standing, listening to the man addressing the crowd through loud speakers from on top of a cart. Many of the spectators are women standing with prams.
The film switches back to a street where a children’s fancy dress parade goes by. It is headed by a band and adults in fancy dress, one dressed as Gandhi. It then switches to a sports field with adults participating in various races, including a sack race and a tug-of-war. The film finishes up with the view of the church in the distance, the same church with which the film started.
