This is one of a series of films made of the 4th Battalion Duke of Wellington Regiment at training camps in the late 1930s. This one sees the Regiment at Halton training camp, showing their arrival, various exercises, and games.
Title – The 4th Battalion Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, under the command of Lieut-Colonel H L Grylls, in the annual training in camp at Halton, Lancaster, from 25th July to 8th August, 1937.

This is one of a series of films made of the 4th Battalion Duke of Wellington Regiment at training camps in the late 1930s. This one sees the Regiment at Halton training camp, showing their arrival, various exercises, and games.
Title – The 4th Battalion Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, under the command of Lieut-Colonel H L Grylls, in the annual training in camp at Halton, Lancaster, from 25th July to 8th August, 1937.
Intertitle – The camp, a general view
There is a panorama of the camp, with many tents. Then the notice board and officers’ tents are show, and a boy walks across the camp.

Intertitle – Arrival of the Battalion
(Col. v. pink) They march into the camp.
Intertitle – Beating “retreat”.
The military band parade up and down.
Intertitle – Returning from training area.
The Regiment marches back into the camp.
Intertitle – This sort of thing gives one a thirst -
Troops are seated in a marquee where they are drinking pints of beer.
Intertitle – And an appetite.
The troops queue to get their food which is dished out to them. They then take their seats in the marquee that is acting as a canteen.
Intertitle – The “Quarter-bloke” does his bit ¬
Two soldiers are seated at a table where they are writing things down.
Intertitle – And the result is.
Four officers are seated at another table with a soldier in a white boiler suit standing to attention in front of it. Several horses are walked past, followed by a jeep, from which ammunition is unloaded. Then a long line of troops march past.
Intertitle – “Middle Sunday”.
A group of women sit and stand outside the sergeant’s mess along with an elderly man with a pipe. One of the women raises a glass of beer to the camera, and they walk off. An officer walks past a motorcycle and sidecar.
Intertitle – Church parade followed by presentation of medals.
The troops stand to attention in the centre of the camp, and they follow the band as they start the parade. They all gather around for the service, held in the field, along with some of the service personnel families. There is then a medal presentation as the film comes to an end.
