This is a film of a railway workshop of the London and North Eastern Railway where a rail crossover is being constructed, possibly made just prior to railway nationalisation in 1948.
The film begins in a railway workshop where workers are piecing together a rail crossover. They lay the sections of track on a platform, and they fix the rails in metal chairs using metal keys and bolts. They then put together a straight section of track. The sections of rail are lifted up by chains on an overhead jib. This forms the approaching section of track to the crossover. Other crossover sections are shown. A man works at a cutting tool which is making a hole in a piece of steel, possibly to make a fixing plate. The sections of track are loaded onto flatbed wagons.
