This is a film of the impressive Christmas illuminations in Sheffield city centre. There film also includes footage of Sheaf Market and Jordanthorpe in Sheffield.
The film begins in the evening, traveling through Sheffield city centre possibly along The Moor, showing the wonderful display of Christmas lights on the streets. There is an illuminated Boys Brigade badge, and cars and buses pass by. They pass the Town Hall and Cole Brothers, along the High Street, past Liverpool Victoria and the Grosvenor Hotel.
There is a short break and then the film shows the inside of a market with shoppers walking past a seafood stall and a linen stall, Lewis’s. Then outside at Sheaf Market, shoppers walk around ‘Stanisland’s for Fruit’ stall and Turner’s Stores, with Parkhill flats in the background.
The next part shows Hangingwater Close, and possibly to Jordanthorpe where there are newly built houses and bungalows and a new group of shops. A girl with her leg in plaster walks along with her mother. Nearby are new flats, Dyche Road and the Jordanthorpe pub. Then there is a main road, the shell of an old church or abbey, and a view over Sheffield, possibly from Parkhill flats. The film shows a different view down on a busy road junction, possibly Castle Square, with lots of cream coloured buses and a policeman directing traffic. The Peter Robinson store is shown. The film ends with more scenes of Jordanthorpe.
