This is a film of the 1981 motorcycle Race of the Year and the Pro-Am at Mallory Park, produced by C.H. Wood of Bradford. The Race of The Year is closely fought between Barry Sheene, Graeme Crosby, Randy Mamola and Kork Ballington, and including ‘Rocket’ Ron Haslam.
The amateurs and young professionals in the Pro-Am event are all riding identical Yamaha 350 RDs, identical to the road bike. There are interviews with riders in the Pro-Am event race: Kim Barker, Peter Wilde, Tom Dury, Kevin Mitchell, and others. After a test ride the mechanics make adjustments to the machines. Some of the commercial sponsors are interviewed. As the Pro-Am race gets underway, Tom Drury goes out in a skirmish on the first corner. Mike Capon comes off and another bike goes into him, but emerges OK. Much the race is shown, with Bedford coming in first and Mitchel second. Barker is interviewed.
Then comes the Race of the Year. Sheene takes the lead, with Haslam behind. But Sheene gets into trouble and loses his place. There is an interview with Randy and then with Barry Sheene. Mamola and Barrington take the lead, followed by Mamola, who then clips a straw bale and loses a footrest, allowing Sheene and Crosby to overtake. Crosby is interviewed, and then shown winning.
