The journey is filmed from the front of a coach as it drives along a dual carriageway. The first stop is York. They enter the city along Tadcaster Road onto Blossom Street, past Micklegate, over Lendal Bridge, and back along the A64 to Castle Howard. This part of the film is accompanied by the soundtrack of the TV series Brideshead Revisited). The journey continues through Beverley where they tour the town centre including the market, Beverley Minster, and the North Bar.
The next part of the film features a children’s gala with a fancy dress competition. This part of the film is accompanied by a soundtrack featuring the song ‘My Girl’s a Yorkshire Girl.’ The gala also includes country dancing, children races, a sack race, a skipping race, and a tug of war. The film moves onto Friarwood Valley Gardens in Pontefract, and the town centre where the Studio 1 Cinema is showing ‘The Golden Voyage of Sinbad’ and ‘Lost in the Desert’. Then, there is a civil war re-enactment which takes place.
They continue their tour, visiting East Hardwick, Wentbridge, Badsworth and Caywood, wandering around the villages, especially the churches, and the surrounding landscape. There are scenic views of Pontefract, with a fairground and a night sequence. Finally, there is the Pontefract Armistice Day parade, led by the Boy’s Brigade band. The parade arrives at the War Memorial where members of the parade lay wreaths.
