This is a film from a collection of home movies made by Jack Johnson of Pontefract. It shows various places in Pontefract in spring before moving on to the family celebrations at Christmas time.
The film begins with a commentary introducing the film before showing various views of Pontefract in the spring. These include children at an outdoor swimming pool on the first Sunday in May. The film then shows new built flats overlooking older flats, the castle, children on the castle grounds, and looking down over the town from the castle top (to the tune of Tom Jones singing the ‘Green green grass of home’). Other places on the town shown are the Red Lion Hotel, the church and the town centre. Lizzie’s husband Moe, (Jack Johnson’s son-in-law) stands in front of a poster for Santa Claus Grotto.
The film switches to Christmas at home with a Christmas tree, and Lizzie knitting whilst seated under a hairdryer. Next Lizzie is outside with their pet dog, along with her father. They are joined by another young couple, Patsy and James. The film finishes showing the Christmas lights in Pontefract.
