The film begins with Jack Johnson and his wife, each with their Moulton bicycles, checking their map. They first visit Temple Newson before moving onto the rose gardens at Nostel Priory where they sit by the river overlooking the bridge. They continue their tour passing a colliery, the lake at Winterset, and on to Selby and Cawood. They visit a market on August bank holiday, with shoppers wandering around the stalls, to the sound of the Seekers singing Morning Town. They visit a river where there is water skiing, and where the actor Kenneth Cope (who was playing Jed Stone in Coronation Street) arrives by boat and makes a small speech.
At Flamingo Park, the couple looks at the animals, visit the Cowboy Park, and then go onto a funfair. In September they visit Fairburn nature reserve, with the swans on the lake, and show polluted foam on the River Ayre at Castleford. This is followed by images of an autumn afternoon in the village of Hooton Pagnell. Finally, “the great race” is a bicycle race through Wentbridge and Darrington, and back to Pontefract, with Mrs Johnson, her daughter, Lizzie, and son, and Lizzie’s boyfriend, a “guest from Persia”, who stops to take photographs of church on his way round.
