The film begins with a view over Elland, shown on a map, as is their first destination, Warwick. Here they have a quick visit to the castle. Next it is onto Stratford-on-Avon and Shakespeare’s house. Then onto Broadway and The Lygon Arms pub. Edward Warburton’s son, Peter, walks between some old buildings. A couple of motorcycles pass, and they drive on to Bourton-on-the-Water. Here, Mrs Warburton and Peter cross over the river.
Intertitle – This enchanting Cotteswold [sic] village is renowned for its charming model of the village.
They walk around the model village before heading off to Blue Anchor on the Somerset coast. Here Peter makes sand castle on the beach while other children paddle in the sea.
Intertitle – Selworthy – with its old world cottages built by Sir Thomas Acland for aged workers on the Acland estate.
They walk around the village, with its white thatched cottages, and take a look inside the church. Then it is onto Allerford and ‘The Pack Horse’, where Peter crosses the nearby stone bridge.
Intertitle – Bossington is another picturesque village on the edge of Exmoor.
Again they take a look at the cottages in the village. They drive on to Exmoor, stopping to greet a horse and a pony before going on to Lynmouth.
Intertitle – This charming Devon resort still showed scars of the disaster of 16.8.52.
Damage to some of the buildings can be seen, and repair work to the walls of the river. Two cyclists are mending a puncture. The family walks around the village and stop at a café for tea and scones. They continue along the coast, going on busy roads with motorcycles and sheep being herded. Finally, they head to Watchet.
Intertitle – Once a busy harbour, Watchet is now chiefly used for the import of wood pulp for the nearby paper mills.
The holiday group are outside the Anchor Hotel, and later, walk around the seaside village.
Intertitle – Porlock Weir, close to the famous hill, is a quiet haven for visiting sea-going craft.
They walk around the fishing village, with boats in the harbour before going on to Dunster.
Intertitle – The Nunnery. A gift by Sir Hugh Pero, of Oaktrow, to Cleeve Abbey, in the year 1346.
They do a tour of the village and of Dunster Castle, with the Dream Garden, showing many flowers, before moving on to Minehead, which they also walk around.
Intertitle – A 19ft tide at the Blue Anchor reminded us of Lynmouth.
People watch as waves crash against the sea walls. In Alveston, the family has lunch at ‘The Ship’, before setting off to Newent and the old Market Hall, and Herefordshire hop fields. Next, it is onto Dinmore where they visit Hampton Court before going to Leomininster.
Intertitle –. . . . to see George, Barbara, Michael and Jennifer.
Again they walk around the town, and watch as a steam train passes over a level crossing, with a motorcycle and sidecar passing them as they arrive at their friends/relatives. Here the children play with their models in the garden. They visit the Norman Priory Church, the ducking stool, the Market Hall and the Corn Square. Then to Grange Court, where a cricket match is being played. Then onto Ludlow, Congleton and Little Moreton Hall before finally arriving back at Elland.
