This film shows some of the activities of the Warship Week for Beverley and District during 1942.  It shows a model of HMS Azlalea, and a march through the town centre. This film shows some of the activities of the Warship Week for Beverley and District during 1942.  It shows a model of HMS Azlalea, and a march through the town centre. The film begins with the Mayor looking around a model of a battle ship, with the name HMS ‘Azlalea’, in the Market Square under a banner for Warship Week, with a target of £120,000.   The Mayoress does a pretend launching of the ship, to get the Week underway.  The Mayor climbs aboard the model ship on Railway Street corner, while other dignitaries form a line in front of it, with members of the public looking on.  A procession passes by including army units, the Home Guard, veterans, various women’s uniformed groups, sailors, RAF, and others.  Behind the procession can be seen wartime posters, including one that states, ‘Save Fuel’.  The procession makes its way to the Minster.  Children stand on the ship as a flag is raised is hoisted up its flag pole, showing new amount of money that has been raised, of £232,76, to applause from the watching crowd.  Then a group of those present walk to a cinema and the film comes to an end.
