This is the first part of a film that shows some of the activities of the Salute the Soldier Week in Beverley during July 1st to the 8th. This part shows the parade through the town centre.
The film begins with the film running backwards, showing coins going into a bag. Then some National Savings Certificates are shown in front of a board declaring ‘Save, lend, more’. Members of the public and dignitaries have gathered in the Market Square to listen to the mayor standing on the Market Cross giving a speech under a banner giving a target of £300,000. He is followed by an officer, a soldier with his arm in a sling and others making speeches. Troops line up ready to parade. There are close ups of some of the dignitaries, who then walk to the unveiling of the fund raising meter. The troops and other service personnel march through the Market Square, followed by the Girl Guides, the Boys Brigade, local dignitaries, and officers from foreign armies. They proceed to the Minster, and are then seen exiting and marching back through the town centre and stopping outside Trust House Hotel.
