One of several from the Parkin family collection, this film shows a compilation of events from 1951 to 1956. The film is made up of both colour and black and white footage.
Colour – The film opens with an outing to Temple Newsam. We are shown a shot of the House, the grounds and people walking around them. The next scene shows two men with their feet in the water and women seated on blankets in the countryside, knitting, reading, and smoking. A short shot of men in a fishing boat laughing and fishing. It then shows the family trip to the seaside, where we see the kids and women sat in deckchairs.
B&W – The children, at a younger age than in the previous scene, play in the garden. They can also be seen visiting and playing in gardens and the countryside. The next scene shows some men on a boat and the surrounding views of the town. The boat arrives at the harbour. This then cuts to a scene of family leisure time at home with more relatives and children. The house is then shown covered in snow and the children playing in it with a bucket. They build a snowman with a bucket and shovel. This is followed by more family time footage involving performances: dressing up and singing and dancing.
There is a small sequence of a man on a motorbike in the countryside riding up steep hills.
This cuts back to more family events, this time involving the adults. It is a party scene where they are wearing hats and other dressing up items. They are acting and laughing.
Colour – A short sequence of shots of buildings and other architecture (rooftops, windows etc.)
B&W – The Parkin children getting ready for bed: putting on their pyjamas, praying at their bedside and getting into bed. They wave goodbye at the camera. A woman counts money at a desk. Following this there is some footage of house renovations, including demolished walls, broken bricks and construction men.
