This is a film of the wedding of Roland Davy, son of Richard Davy founder of the auctioneers and estate agency Adair Davy Leeds, and Helen Freda Thackray, daughter of Charles Thackray, after whom the Thackray Medical Museum in Leeds was named. The wedding took place on 15 June 1933 at St John’s Church, Roundhay, Leeds.
The film begins with the newlyweds posing for the cameras with two women in white and another man. They greet other guests at the reception with a large marquee on the lawn of Oakwood house, Oakwood Lane, Roundhay. The smartly dressed guests stand talking as they are served drinks. The three bridesmaids join them: Mary Thackray, Betty Thackray and Marian Hargreaves. There are more photo shots and the guests make their way into the marquee. The film shows Freda’s mother Helen and her friend Mrs Preston (both in cloche hats), and the vicar. They say their farewell as the newlyweds get into their waiting car and drive off, with some running after them. The guests then slowly make their way back to the large country house.
