This is the first part of a film made by Dorothy Langshaw of a trip by the children of Westfield Infants School in York where Dorothy was the Headmistress. This part is to Flamingo Park in Scarborough.
The film begins homing in on the sign for Westfield Infants School, with the entrance behind. An intertitle for ‘May 1975’ dissolves to reveal a field of white flowers. Some school boys get into a mustard coloured Austin Allegro to the tune of the theme song for the children’s television programme ‘Play Away’. Then a group of school children are escorted by Headmistress around Flamingo Land zoo, with lions, tigers, antelopes, giraffes, penguins, elephants, monkeys and other animals and birds. The children gather to make notes on their writing boards. They then play on the rocking horse, roundabout and other playground rides before continuing their walk around the zoo pond and aviary, still making notes, as the film comes to an end.
