This is a film made by Dorothy Langshaw of the children of Westfield Infants School in York, where Dorothy was the Headmistress. It shows the children playing, doing exercises, watching a fireworks display and at Christmas time.
The film begins showing the gardens and the flowers in the school grounds. In the playground a girl is on a swing, and the other children are playing on a slide and a climbing frame or doing other games. One boy gets pulled along by another boy on a cart made like a railway engine. Other boys are on a large black rocking horse, and girls play with hula-hoops. Other girls have dolls and play with kitchen toys, while others play a game of making pictures. Boys make a structure with wooden building blocks. Two boys play a board game with cards. Other boys make models out of small sticks. A small girl does some knitting.
Inside the classroom, the children clasp their hands in prayer with closed eyes. Afterwards they are each given a bottle of milk. Back in the playground the children do skipping and play with spinning tops. In the gym the children do exercises with hula-hoops, one girl excelling in skipping with one. They then go on a climbing frame, hanging upside down and going down a slide, and also do floor exercises.
Outside the children watch a fireworks display in the daytime. The fireworks are placed in a line along a wall and lit one at a time by a Headmistress. The children get excited as the fireworks go off.
Later in the year, inside the school hall, children sit around a large Christmas tree, and look at the decorations and a model of the nativity, which they enact. Some of the children are wearing black masks. They then all sit around in paper hats for their Christmas party, and collect presents from underneath the tree.
