This is a film made by Dorothy Langshaw of a trip by the children of Westfield Infants School in York, where Dorothy was a Headmistress, to Flamborough and Flamingo Park in Scarborough, with a soundtrack of children singing and piano music.
The film begins in a wood, with ducks and geese on a river. Then a group of children on a street feed and play with a crippled parrot. The children then visit Flamingo Park where they see penguins and other birds and animals, including what looks like a green woodpecker. The children crowd around the school coach and are escorted by the teachers as they have a drink. Some of the children mimic the dangerous animals in the zoo and go off to look at the elephants. From there the children look at the goldfish and then the parrots, before stopping to eat lunch on the grass. Then on to Ocean World where there is a display by the dolphins.
They next chase after a clown, Brum, riding a bicycle, who stops to smile at the camera. Two children look out of the window of the building for ‘First Aid and Lost Children’. Next on to the playground before boarding their coach. There is a short break before returning with a road sign stating ‘No through road for motor vehicles’. The children walk down a steep hill to the lifeboat at Flamborough Head, where the children spend some time on the beach, and have their sandwiches there sitting on the rocks, along with a crate of milk bottles.
After their break they play on the beach and go down to the sea before walking back up. At the top they are given their milk and have more to eat while they sit in the car park. Then they visit the lighthouse, wandering around and then walking up to the top to look at the light rotating and the view. The children are then helped back down the steep staircase. Once down the children have a fight with the grass cuttings.
Back at school the children make a model of the lighthouse and the film ends.
