This is a film from the Douthwaite Collection featuring a family holiday in Lancashire. There is also footage of the family at home in the garden with their small children.
The film begins at St Anne’s-on-the-sea Railway Station. They are in a house on Victoria Road, which has a pram in the front garden. A woman comes out and takes the baby from the pram and feeds it from a bottle. Rosalie joins her as she puts the baby back into the pram.
(Col.) A car pulls off in a road. Some horse riders come along a street in front of a shop for Christopher Strong, while the town centre is quiet. Back at the house the baby lies in a cot, and is then placed on a settee. They take a walk along a pier before the film switches to a wind up rabbit bouncing up and down and banging symbols on a bed.
A woman brings the baby to a church for a Christening. Other guests arrive. Back at home the baby is held by an elderly woman in the front garden, followed by other women also holding the baby for the camera. A small boy bounces up and down and the baby is back in its pram.
(B&W) In the back garden a man helps a small girl as she holds onto a pram. Visitors take a trip on a miniature railway. The family are next on a beach, with the baby now taking some first steps. Back at home the small boy plays with his grandmother, while the baby walks around in a walking frame. Then in the back garden the two children run around.
(Col.) A woman and small girl stand next to a small streamlined locomotive, the ‘Princess Anne.’ They are then seated in the locomotive, posing for the camera. They are then back on a beach, next to a beach hut, with the small girl with George, making a sand castle. Two women are sat with them on the sand. Back at home some people are in the garden, and then out by a river. The film continues to switch between a village green and a garden with lots of flowers, where a group of people pose for the camera.
